Magic has been around for as long as anyone can remember. Depending on which universe your character is from, the culture of stigma around magic will vary. However, the laws of magic will remain the same regardless of the universe. Everything written in this section, unless otherwise stated, will hold true for both universes.

From research done by credited academics over the centuries they have concluded that there are three basic laws of magic.

  1. True magic is of the natural kind, it works insofar as one is connected to nature.
  2. Object magic, while less powerful, can be harnessed by anyone -- no one is immune to whatever effects it entails.
  3. Magic may be stripped from anyone at any time.

True magic is the strongest form there is. Magicians have Vaeis, the scientific word for pure magic, running through their veins. It is what gives them the power to use the magic of the world. However, because all magic originates from nature, the longer one is away from it the weaker they become. True magic works by calling upon magic through their body and reciting spells in their mind.

Object magic includes potion-making, conjuring, runes, wards, objects, artifacts, etc. One does not need to be a Magician in order to utilize object magic. However, it is not as powerful as true magic, and if utilized by a Magician the object magic will be more effective/powerful.

Through the ritual of Orisim, a Magician may have their magic stripped of them. It is a very painful process but happens more often than one would expect. Orisim occurs when the world sees fit. It is not induced by humans (although they have certainly tried) and it has no bearing as to a person being “evil” or “good”. It happens supposedly without reason, but who knows :)

See Magic Tiers for more information on how magicians are categorized

Spells & Vaeis.

General magic can be used by any magician. I will be creating a document with a list of general magic spells you may add on to as well so we may have a compendium of magic ideas. Think most DnD spells will work for this purpose.

Each magician has a limited amount of Vaeis (think of it like a mana pool) **that needs to be replenished after a time. Replenishment happens after a night. Depending on your character’s level the amount of Vaeis your character may possess will vary.

Level 0: 25 v.

Level 1: 50 v.

Level 2: 75 v.

Level 3:  100 v.

Level 4: 125 v.

Level 5:  150 v.

Note: All characters at the start of the RP will be level 0. Levels will be group-wide so no one can level up without everyone leveling up. Also, Vaeis amounts might change depending on how it actually plays out in the RP. Who the heck knows.

Three Great Aureas

The Three Great Aureas represent not magic itself, but specific uses of magic. If one does not have an Aurea they are unable to execute that specific ability. There is no natural order to Aureas, but people have begun to categorize certain times of abilities as Chaotic, Harmonic, or Neutral. They have labeled powers based on how they have been used in history. However, as history changes a power may move to a different level depending on what the Magic Council decides.
